  • Humphries Orthodontics has a brand new Web Site

    Screen Shot 2013 03 02 at 12 11 00 AM

As many of you may know I have created my own office Web sites from Day 1. Over the years, I don’t know how but, I have picked up the ability to write HTML, CSS, and basic javascript (thank you jQuery for making my life easier).

That being said, have completely redone our Web site from the ground up. This was a one month project that took me deep into the early hours of many mornings. It was finally finished when I spent 12-14 hours per day for 8 of my ten days our of the office writing code. Every element was designed by myself in photoshop and then hand coded with a text editor.

I am very proud of and excited about our new site. I feel as though it is a much better resource for prospective and current orthodontic patients. I hope that you find the time to take a look.

  • Officially Announcing the Humphries Orthodontics Artesia iPad Room

Artesia iPad Room - Humphries Orthodontics

We have something exciting to announce to our patients. Our Artesia iPad room has been completed! As the end of 2012 approached, we made a number of purchases to enhance our ability to offer top quality orthodontic care and improve the patient experience during each appointment. Some of the new equipment has not been delivered yet but we expect everything to be delivered and installed during the first quarter of 2013. We already have more new and exciting additions for each office planned for 2013 so stay tuned.

For those interested, all of the photos in the Artesia office were taken and printed by Dr. Sage Humphries. The fine art prints in the Artesia iPad room were taken at Dr. Humphries’ favorite golf course in Souther California. It is on the to do list to install similar photography in Orange sometime in 2013.

    Calendar Icon 1

We are happy to announce that we are publishing the Humphries Orthodontics hours of operation calendar so that our patients have yet another resource to find out where we will be and during which hours on any given day day of the week. The calendar is accurate up to four months in advance. You may view the calendar in a web browser by clicking here or you may subscribe to the calendar by clicking here.. At this time the link has not been added directly to the main Web site although it is our goal to have the link there soon.

We hope that this is just another resource that patients and their families find helpful. It is always our goal to make every aspect of your orthodontic treatment as pleasant as possible. We understand that, now more than ever, our patients and their families have very busy schedules. We want to make every effort to make scheduling your orthodontic visits as simple as possible. We hope this helps!

  • Humphries Orthodontics introduces the Itero 3D Scanner

    Itero big

We are very excited to announce the addition of the iTero 3D intraoral scanner into our office. This amazing piece of technology allows us to take digital impressions and replaces the gooey alginate that has been historically used in dentistry.

There are many different applications of this technology and there will be many benefits to our patients. First, for Invisalign® patients, this will supplant the PVS impressions that were previously necessary. After the scan, one mouse click uploads the data to Align Technologies’ servers so that their technicians can begin to setup the case according to Dr. Humphries’ prescription. The scans provide increased accuracy, enhanced comfortability, and dramatically reduces the turn around time from impression to aligner delivery. This is great for those minor refinements that are sometimes needed at the end of treatment

We are also beginning to use the scanner to replace traditional plaster study models that are taken at the beginning and the end of treatment. The scanning process is very technique sensitive so we have not completely transitioned over but many of our patients starting and finishing treatment are being able to take advantage of this process today.

Another application of this technology is for orthodontic appliances. A 3D scan can be submitted to a laboratory and they can print a 3D model from which they can fabricate appliances. Examples of appliances that this technology can be used for are things like the MARA Class II corrector, the Herbst appliance, and many others. Unfortunately, this is really only an advantage for complex appliances where the case is sent out of state. The turn around time is much quicker (1 day) for simple appliances like retainers and as such we will still take impressions for retainers.

Finally, once the mouth is scanned, Dr. Humphries has instant access to 3D models that allows the teeth to be analyzed in ways that are not possible when looking in the mouth. This will compliment the diagnosis and treatment planning process and allow us to enhance the high quality care that we already offer. We are very excited that we are able to incorporate this technology in the office. We think that it will further improve the overall patient experience!

  • The Humphries Orthodontics Newsletter

Throughout the course of each year I keep a running list of ideas to improve our offices. One of the things on the list for 2012 was an office newsletter. So, I sat down over the New Year’s weekend and created a digital newsletter. The idea is to publish anything relevant to our patients and their orthodontic care so that everybody is informed as to what is going on in the office. I really noticed the need for a newsletter as the staff began to grow and patients began to question the new faces in the office.

The newsletter serves as a vehicle for me to relay any important information to all of our patients. It is my hope that our patients and their families find this information helpful. I intend on publishing the letter on a quarterly basis.

I would like to wish all of our patients and their families a Happy New Year. I cannot wait to implement some of my other ideas for the office over the course of the year!

  • Humphries Orthodontics 2012 Staff Photos

We have a number of improvements we plan on making to the offices for our patients in 2012. One of those improvements is improved communication and a triennial email newsletter. The newsletter will cover office news and highlight patient achievements.

One of the topics for the first newsletter are the staffing changes that have occurred over the course of the past year. We have lost a familiar face and had another reduce to part time employment. In order to properly introduce the new staff, I took some photos before work two days ago. The photo above is our new staff photo!

As you can imagine, some of the girls (especially Dina, Erica, and Sara) got a little silly. We took the photos using a remote timer and the girls decided to make the best out of the takes in which everybody (mainly me since I was the photographer) was not properly situated in front of the lens. We had a great time and followed it with another awesome day of orthodontics.

  • Almost There

After many unforeseen issues during our Artesia office remodel, it is finally back open! At this point it is about 90% complete but it is fully functional. Here are just a few photos that were taken just before opening up to see patients again (at this point the front office granite was not complete).

The new office not only looks more modern and is more open which helps to facilitate communication but it is a functional improvement for us. It allows us to perform our treatment duties more efficiently and effectively. The only thing really left is decorating. The waiting room bench will have a back but the fabric is on back order until the middle of the month. We certainly need a rug and a coffee table for the waiting room for functionality and to create a more homey feel. The final touch will be artwork. That will probably take some time.

All in all we are very excited about the new office. We appreciate all of our patients’ patience over the course of the past several months. We hope that you feel as we do, it was worth the wait.
